SHAPE Magazine Discusses 13 Banned Foods Still Allowed In The US

SHAPE Magazine recently published an article entitled 13 Banned Foods Still Allowed in the US. Articles like this really irritate me, because it's beyond disturbing to think that other countries are getting rid of extremely harmful ingredients and additives, while the American government continues to allow these toxic agents to be used in our food.

This article is an easy read and a great resource for your grocery shopping excursions. I can't tell you how many times I have picked up a box of "gluten-free" Chex Mix and wondered, what the heck is BHT? Not knowing what it was, I never purchased the cereal, which, incidentally, is used as a bribe at my daughter's school. "The class that brings in the most box tops gets a Chex Mix party!"

Anyway, BHT and BHA is a known carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) made from petroleum. So there's that. If you don't know what an ingredient is, best to skip the product in question altogether.
