Urban Air Seeks To Replace Los Angeles Billboards With Lofty Bamboo Forests

One of my least favorite things about Los Angeles are the towering billboards and shameless advertisements which more often than not feature violent, graphic and sexual images that are entirely inappropriate for young eyes. I never paid them much notice until Miss O was old enough to start questioning the in-your-face, impossible to miss content that screamed out at us at every turn.

So when I heard about this awesome Kickstarter project called Urban Air, it was a literal breath of fresh air. Urban Air's mission is to replace billboards with bamboo forests in cities across the world, and their inaugural lofty green space is scheduled to tower above LA in the new year.

Hats off to artist Stephen Glassman for imagining this concept and for now trying to bring it to fruition. More about Urban Air's plans:

"Upon a successful launch, it’s our plan and intention to transform the steel and wood of outdoor advertising into the infrastructure of urban sustainability in cities around the globe – actively, publicly, and collectively generating a green global future."

We now live in an area that is free of billboard advertisements, and I can't tell you what a difference it makes. People talk about noise and air pollution, and I think there is also a case for sight pollution, which runs rampant in big cities.

I hope Urban Air meets their fundraising goal so all may benefit from enjoying more green space and less in-your-face ads.
