The highs and lows of fruits and veggies

Olivia starts her journey into our beloved world of fruits and veggies next week. We've decided to feed her only organic fruits and vegetables due to the use of the many pesticides and toxins used to treat conventionally grown crops. Further, choosing organic enables growers to continue employing sustainable farming as we create a demand for their produce and preserve the earth and ourselves!

I found a great list which details the fruits and vegetables that are treated with the highest levels of pesticides and the fruits that are treated with the lowest levels of pesticides. This may help you in your shopping endeavors in the event that an organic option is not available. It's good to know what to reach for that may be a lesser evil on the dinner table.

The Pesticides and Produce list may be found here
. Note that grapes from Chile are on the "highest" list, but grapes grown in the United States and Mexico are on the "lowest" list. This is one of those rare times in life where you want the "low" score. (You want a low score on certain cholesterol results too!) Other "low" fruits and veggies to put in your basket include, avocados, bananas, plums, watermelon, broccoli and onions.

Armed with this information, you can make safer purchases for you and your loved ones when an organic option is not within reach.

Love your blog! I'm a new mom on a similar mission to go green and my daughter has totally be the inspiration. She started solids a month ago and I highly recommend Happy Baby Food. They're great to have handy for when you can't DIY. Not to mention they have yummy flavors and use organic ingredients. Good luck with solids!
