Like Chocolate for Vegans


Living on a no dairy, gluten free diet is a challenge, but it is doable. The one thing I have been missing more than cheese is chocolate. It's true that you never know how much you miss something until it's gone... and I now realize I really am a chocoholic.

I have gone to great lengths to recreate or substitute for chocolate. My husband even brought me home an amazing Rice Milk Chocolate bar, but it cost five dollars and I am too frugal to buy that regularly! I found a way to make a decadent chocolate treat that is healthy and vegan, and I'd like to share my recipe with you.

This rivals any chocolate malt or milkshake, and it is much better for you.

Beth's "Like Chocolate for Vegans" Smoothie

1 banana
5 strawberries (I buy them in bulk, frozen, but fresh will do too!)
2 cups chocolate rice milk (or chocolate soy milk)
1 long drizzle of honey
1 heaping tablespoon ground flaxseed
1 heaping tablespoon Nutribiotic Vanilla Rice Protein (also available in plain or chocolate)
Blend well and Serve chilled

Drink this when no one is around, or you will have to put two straws in the glass and share!

This looks great. I love chocolate soy milk, so that is what I would choose. That protein supplement looks interesting. Since I am limiting our meat consumption I think that would be beneficial.
