My Ode to the Other Guy in Red

This time of year, most people are thinking about that jolly red dude, Santa Claus. But, the reason for the year round festive season in our house is another red guy: Elmo.

Elmo is the reason I am able to take a shower every morning. Once the "Elmo's World" theme song starts and Olivia bops her head and snaps her fingers with a giant smile on her face, I am able to have that ever elusive "Calgon" moment.

Elmo has actually taught Olivia a few words, and he's taught her to sing. He's even had a hand in her dental hygiene. During a phase when prying her mouth open to brush her teeth was akin to freeing a pit bull's jaw from a T-bone, a song from Elmo sitting at his piano uploaded from YouTube made her laugh so I could weasel the brush in for a few quick strokes.

Initially, we weren't going to allow Olivia to watch any television. But Elmo has actually been a very good influence on her, and we're thrilled that he's a guest in our home for a few minutes each day.

There's nothing 'green' about this post, except that Elmo's songs and dances have been recycled and enjoyed multiple times throughout our home. Thanks, Elmo... you are the reason for many a happy season!
